Lot Number 205 - 1926 Ford Model TT 10 Seater Country Bus

Registration no. SV 9551 Chassis no. 14390021 Engine no. 14390021 The Model T Ford was conceived as a passenger car however it was only a matter of time before its sturdy reliability made its chassis an obvious choice for commercial service. The robust 22.4hp, four cylinder engine had tremendous pulling power and soon a sturdier and longer TT one ton chassis was developed to give greater carrying capacity. This TT chassis carries country bus coachwork so typical of those operated by small companies in Yorkshire in the 1920s. This vehicle has a remarkable history in that it was acquired by the grandson of its original owner as a restoration project in the late 1970s. It had been discovered derelict in a hedge bottom where it had lain following a mechanical breakdown in 1939. Little of the original coachwork survived. As its new owner commenced research and restoration a family connection unfolded. The remaining vestiges of pale blue paintwork, the reduction gearbox fitted and questioning of locals revealed that this vehicle had originally belonged to the restorer’s grandfather. Serendipity indeed. He had operated coaches in the Bubwith area of Yorkshire and further chance brought the owner into contact with the grandson of the coachbuilder who had built the original body for this vehicle. Now restored as closely as possible to original specification using period photographs for guidance, the vehicle is superbly presented with mahogany and aluminium coachwork, coachbuilt in the best vintage traditions, liveried in blue and white and sign-written with the name of its original operator. This country bus has been the subject of a major mechanical restoration and has covered only a few hundred miles since completion of that restoration. It comes with a Swansea V5 registration document, MoT certificate to July 2004 and road fund licence, together with a copy of an article recording its unique history and restoration.
