Marcos LM600

Your Features Editor was reporting on the 2002 Autosport International Racing Car Show where he met the TFM-GT racing team with their awesome Marcos LM 600.

This car is fitted with a 6.2 litre Chevrolet engine turning out over 600 bhp through a six speed sequential gearbox. The body, which is still recognisable as the Dennis Adams design of 1962, is made from carbon fibre. In this trim the car is capable of 190 mph.

The team, headed by Gerry Taylor, will be running two Marcos LM 600’s in the 13 race Privilege Insurance GT Championship for 2002. The other team drivers are Paul Stephens, Charlie Butler-Henderson and Robert Cudmore.

Gerry Taylor has been racing cars since 1994 and has already achieved a second place in the Porsche 924 Championship and third overall in the Caterham Superlight Challenge in 2000. He has been, “Driver of the Year”, Competitor of the Year” and “Fastest Lap Award Winner”.

Paul Stephens started racing karts at the age of nine and by 1995 he had progressed to winning the Porsche 924 Championship at his first attempt. He partnered Gerry for one race in the British GT Championship with the Marcos in 2001. They finished 4th and were awarded Autosport “Drivers of the Day”. Together they are “team one”.

Charlie Butler-Henderson also started with karts and 1995/96 drove in the Formula Vauxhall Junior Championship. Since then he has been competing regularly with a Marcos Mantis the best year being 1999 when he was second overall in the Challenge.

Robert Cudmore raced Superbikes in America and was placed first at Laguna Seca and fourth overall in the 1989 season. He drove in Formula Ford and Radical during 2000. He was eighth overall in the Legends Challenge in 2001 and is currently competing in the Winter German Challenge in a Porsche 924. Robert and Charlie make “team two”.

There is an added interest in this venture as your features editor was the first to purchase a Marcos in 1960 and was Autosport Champion in 1961 winning every qualifying round. The final was a three-hour race at Snetterton, the last hour of which was in darkness. But that is another story.

We wish both the TFM-GT teams every success for 2002 and look forward to reporting on their progress.
